【1】まず、ハーバード大学への日本からの留学は、大学院が昔から圧倒的に多数であり、その人数は今でも100名を超えている。
【2】学部への入学は最盛期でも20名弱であり、現在3～4名と減少しているのは確かだが、1名という年はない。
【3】ハーバードは留学定員があり、そのため、韓国・中国・インドの留学生が激増した昨今は、日本人が割を食っている。
【4】 その玉突きか、昨今はイェール大学への日本人入学者が増え、今年は7名と過去最高となっている。
といった反証が挙げられている。このデータから言えば、「イェール大学への日本人留学生が過去最高！日本の若者は外向きだ」なんて記事だって書けてしまうのだ。
